Hunting Memory


"The night before the hunting season I had a dream. You’ve seen what these rounded Badland mounds looks like, there was a mule deer buck standing on top with typical antlers, five on either side. And I thought, oh that’s odd because I’ve never seen any deer in that area, it’s always been an antelope area. But the next day I went directly over there, and there was that buck standing on top of that mound. The only difference was that one part of the horn was broken off like they had been fighting, so his antlers weren’t perfect. But other than that, he was right there. And I never did ever see a deer there before. But I didn’t shoot it, for all I knew it was someone’s spirit. And I just let it go."
