Virtual Ecologies
Symposium Series | in development
How can the strategies of contemporary artists and thinkers help create alternate futures based in environmental justice and ecological restoration?
The Virtual Ecologies Series will focus on a variety of approaches that people are using to make non-fiction ecological work. It will bring together artists, scholars and activists from the domains of documentary filmmaking, history, immersive media, journalism, and social practice. United by a commitment to climate, ecology and science communication, the series will create a space for surfacing diverse strategies, collectively exploring their advantages and challenges, and interrogating how they effect political and social change. This will contribute unique insights into the links between art and impact, particularly with regards to new media and climate communication.
The series will culminate in the production of a beautifully designed and printed book, part of a larger series of books produced by the Topography project. The book will include: edited conversations with artists, a toolkit of strategies, commissioned articles, and artworks and illustrations.
